π This handfasting ritual is perfect for people who need to stay a bit covert in their practice or who would like a more secular ceremony. There is no obvious mention of any specific deity, no calling a circle, and nothing else that would generally make any guests at your wedding suspicious that you may be up to some Pagan or Witchy things at your ceremony.
π A downloadable, printable handfasting ritual. Perfect to use as a keepsake of your wedding ceremony, or keep in your Book of Shadows or Grimoire for reference.
This is the exact handfasting ceremony that my husband and I used in 2004. At the time, I was Wiccan and he was Agnostic and it worked for both of us. Our families were not supportive of differing opinions on religion and so we had to be low-key with our ceremony. There is still enough in there that it feels like a really nice handfasting, but also not overtly Pagan in nature.
We had many compliments on how nice of a ceremony it was, even from our most religious family members who were none the wiser.
The ritual/ceremony itself can easily be adapted to be secular (by replacing the two mentions of "the divine" with something like "Nature" or "the Universe" or omitting those lines completely. "The divine" could also be replaced with specific deities of your choosing if you desire.
It is written as to have one officiant, two witnesses, and parents present for each partner.
It is gender neutral, with "Partner 1" and "Partner 2" throughout. You may edit the Word or Google Docs version of the file to add names instead. If you are handfasting more than 2 people it can be easily adapted to this as well.
.PDF, .DOCX
πA matching blank sheet in PDF format so you may add to the ceremony as you wish.
You will require a free PDF reader such as Foxit Reader (or Preview in OSX) to use the PDF version.
πWe also provide a link to Google Docs and you may download a copy to your own drive if you wish to edit the file.π
π Add it to your own grimoire or book of shadows! Glue it in or use a 3-ring binder or any other movable journal format you enjoy.
